Treatment For Insomnia

Treatment products already on the market for the treatment of insomnia include Ambien and Sonata.

* Ambien is used in the treatment of sleep problems including trouble falling asleep, waking up too early and waking up during the night and being unable to fall asleep again.
A few of the side effects include daytime drowsiness, dizziness, feeling lightheaded and problems with coordination.

* Sonata, the product of King Pharmaceuticals, is used in the treatment of short-term insomnia. Some side effects include headache, dizziness, and, again, possible excessive daytime drowsiness.
Remember that all sleep medications have the potential to cause other problems. Occasionally there is some memory loss or temporary amnesia.

Consider with any drug, dependence may be a problem, even though the drug is not, in itself, addictive. Certain people may believe they are unable to fall asleep without taking the drug and may take it longer than necessary.

Tolerance - another problem, that may cause the loss of effectiveness with continuing use of the drug, causes users to gradually increase the dosage. It could be a danger to their health, both physical and mental.

Sleep medication should never be stopped suddenly. It can cause a reoccurrence or even a worsening of the original insomnia.

If any unusual side effects occur, when taking any sleep medication, be sure to let your doctor know as soon as possible. All the time follow your doctor's instructions as to dosage and length of time to continue taking the medication.
By no means use alcohol while taking a sleep medication and be sure to tell your doctor if you are or if you become pregnant while taking the drug.
